I am the Course Convenor and tutor for Developing Research and Analytical Skills (COM151) and along with Stephanie Burdett, I will be the main point of contact for you for this Unit. We are here to assist you with all your unit related questions regarding the week-by-week modules, content and assessments. For the past 20 years I have been teaching academic skills (reading, writing, research and study skills) to undergraduate and postgraduate students. As a former OUA student, she understands the pressures of distance learning and enjoys helping new students reach their potential. email: s.burdett@griffith.edu.au About The Unit This subject is designed to foster critical thinking about sources of information. On completion of this subject, you will have an increased awareness of issues affecting the media and will be able to: identify appropriate methods of obtaining information evaluate sources for relevance and credibility research in an academic manner with appropriate structure and referencing Where do I find Stuff? To get started familiarise yourself with the course by reading through the Study Guide, Assessments and Due Dates and the Discussion Forums. We will be using the Discussion Board as our main collaborative learning tool, so please regularly visit the boards for any updates and feel free to post any questions you might want to share with the group to the discussion boards. Also make sure you look at the weekly announcements (like this!). It will let you know the expectations for that week. You will find these under the announcements tab. What do I have to do next? Look through the modules/weekly tutorials by clicking on Home on the left-hand menu. You will find the weekly tasks at the end of each tutorial. You will also have access to the Discussion Board. This is where you can post your weekly tasks and ask questions. Please visit the Discussion Board and introduce yourself to the rest of the class with a short introduction about yourself if you have not already done so. To do this you simply reply to the original post (by your tutor). Please ensure that you have access and if you do not email m.schroder@griffith.edu.au.
