EXTENSION POLICY If you are sick or are experiencing a family emergency, you can organise an extension. You will need to provide documents to support your request. Except in extenuating circumstances, you must arrange your extension online by the due time for the assessment item. Late penalties apply if you do not organise an extension. If a blank or unreadable document, or the wrong version is submitted, this will receive late penalties. Extensions will not necessarily be granted for reasons such as work pressures, computer problems or lost assignments. Extension requests It is in your interest to think through the consequences of an extended submission date for your assessment. An assignment submitted late may not: • be returned to you before the next assignment is due, • have the necessary feedback sent to you before your next assignment is due. To request an extension, you must: • complete an application for an assessment extension using the online form by the due date for the assessment item (emailed requests will not be considered) • submit appropriate documentation to support your application. Penalties for late submission Please refer to the Assessment Procedure for Students section 3.5.2. An assessment item submitted after the due time on the due date set by the Course Convenor, without an approved extension, will be penalised. The standard penalty is the reduction of the mark allocated to the assessment item by 5 percent (%) of the total weighted mark for the assessment item, for each calendar day that the item is late. Assessment items submitted more than seven calendar days after the due date will be awarded zero marks. For further information, please refer to the table in the Assessment Procedure for Students which outlines the appropriate application of this rule.
