How do I change my name?
Updated 22/03/2023 02.01 PM
To change your legal name, you will need to complete a Change of Personal Details form and submit it with supporting documentation to Student Connect or via 'Ask Us a question'.*
Acceptable supporting documentation includes:
Australian driver's licence
marriage certificate
decree nisi
birth certificate
passport
deed poll
other official documentary evidence stating the change to your name.
Important: Your personal details (legal first name, last name and date of birth) at the University must match exactly the details held at the Government's USI Registry. If they do not match exactly, your Unique Student Identifier (USI) will not be verified and your studies may be impacted.
It can take up to five working days for your record to be amended.
To change your preferred name, please follow the below steps:
Log into myGriffith.
Select My Details.
Select Edit details.
Please note: You are not required to provide a legal document to change your ‘preferred’ name in the system. While the University endeavours to use the ‘preferred name’ in the first instance across all systems (over 150 systems have been reviewed to rectify where possible), there are a small number of systems (such as Turnitin) that require a manual process to update a person’s ‘preferred name’. To ensure these updates are made, or report instances of incorrect name usage, please raise a request via the IT Support Centre.
