This course does not assume you are already able to undertake research in a particular field or discipline. Instead, it guides you to find appropriate and relevant information and organise it. It has been designed to help students learn how to prepare and write an academic assignment in response to a question that requires them to find information. You will learn how to write a critical analysis assignment and also a formal research report, applying correct referencing along the way.
The course emphasises practical analytical and interpretive skills and organisation of research material and information. This will be useful in your professional career and in your overall ability to deal with and manage information in all aspects of your daily life.
This is a hands-on 'learn by doing' course that will challenge you to think critically and present your work professionally. It will teach you how to evaluate information sources (moving beyond Google, to indexes and databases) to expose you to scholarly research methods.
